About the Workshop

The Albemarle Region Offender Referral Services Program and Hopeline, Inc. are pleased to sponsor a FREE one-day workshop on sexual assault and its relationship with alcohol and other drug use.  As a community, we all have the responsibility of being aware of ongoing societal issues and being proactive in the establishment of continuing care.

Target Audience

This workshop will benefit a broad range of professionals and individuals.  Those who work in substance abuse, private practice, social work, criminal justice, courts, schools, and the faith community may find this workshop helpful.  Any interested individual is welcome to attend!

Program Location

This program will be held at Room 211 Heritage Hall, Mid-Atlantic Christian University in Elizabeth City, NC.  THERE IS LIMITED SEATING AVAILABILITY FOR THIS PROGRAM SO PLEASE RSVP IMMEDIATELY!

Credit

Certificates for contact hours will be provided at the completion of the workshop.  You MUST attend the entire workshop to receive contact hours.  Certificates must be picked up at the conclusion of the workshop and will not be mailed.

About Our Presenters

Athena Chasteen, LCSW is a counselor at Albemarle Hopeline, a private, non-profit agency providing emergency shelter and services to victims of domestic violence and sexual assault in Northeastern North Carolina. She received her Associate degrees at College of the Albemarle, graduated from Elizabeth City State University with a Bachelor of Science, majoring in psychology, and received her Master’s degree at East Carolina University. She also provides psychotherapy in private practice. She presently provides direct services in the Currituck County Satellite office, Support Services for Hopeline’s Hope House, and leads a community response team for victims of sexual violence, as well as in-services training for community service providers.

Dawn Stallings received her BSW from North Carolina State University.  She has been working in the domestic violence/sexual violence field for 12 years. She began her career at Safe Space, Inc., a domestic violence program in Louisburg, North Carolina.  She developed and implemented the Children’s Program and moved up in the organization to Prevention Coordinator.  Upon relocating to Eastern North Carolina, she was hired by Albemarle Hopeline as the Prevention Specialist responsible for implementing educational programs on domestic violence, sexual assault, teen dating violence and bullying to area schools and the community at large.

Michael M. Furey, CSAPC, CCJP is the Director of the Offender Referral Services Program, a position he has held since 1995.  He received his undergraduate degree in Criminal Justice from ECSU.  He served on the North Carolina Substance Abuse Professional Practice Board from 1999 to 2005.  He is a graduate of the UNC/CH Advanced Academic Program for Prevention Professionals and has worked in the substance abuse treatment and prevention field for over 23 years.
